If you fail to comply with this requirement you will be excluded from the rest of the programme and must vacate your registrar post. Only in exceptional cases, and with the submission of an appropriate motivation, will the Department’s Postgraduate Committee consider allowing you to continue in your post.
- Part II

- Research assignment
- You must complete a research assignment as part of the final assessment for the MMed (Anaes) degree, and to be able to register as a specialist anaesthesiologist with the HPCSA. The research assignment must follow the criteria as set out by the Programme Committee of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care.
- The final mark is calculated as follows:
- Final examination of the College of Anaesthetists – 75%
- Research assignment – 25%.
- You need a final mark of at least 50% to obtain the MMed (Anaes) degree, and at least 75% to pass the degree with distinction.
- You must vacate your registrar’s post after four years, irrespective of whether or not you have passed the Part II examination. Only in exceptional cases, and on submission of an appropriate motivation, will the Department’s Postgraduate Programme Committee consider extending your registrar training period.
