The course explores contextual issues relating to occupational social work practice in South Africa. Classes are designed to be interactive, where students can learn from each other as well as experts in various fields.
OverviewUnder the guidance and supervision of an occupational social worker, students undertake their practical requirements at their work organisations over a two year period. Students learn to effectively intervene on an advanced level of practice through implementing micro, meso and macro interventions. Group tutorials and workshops provide the students with the opportunity to learn and practice their skills in a safe and developmental environment. At the end of the two year period students are required to submit portfolios of evidence.Students attend research design and methodology workshops, which will enable them to complete a research in their field of interest under the guidance of the research supervisor.The programme comprises of two theory courses which address relevant issues in the specialised field of occupational social work as well as a two year practical internship. In addition, students are required to complete a research report in the field of occupational social work.
