The Department of Cultural Policy and Management (CP&M) within the Wits School of Arts offers Masters and Honours degrees, preparing students for entry into a diverse and exciting world of cultural policy, cultural economy, city making, arts management, cultural leadership and activism, cultural administration and arts marketing. The degrees are also aimed at mid-career professionals aiming to consolidate their grasp and practice of the field.

The Masters programme by coursework and research report has a choice of three analytically challenging but practically oriented courses: the foundational course is Cultural Policy and Leadership; Culture, Creativity and Economy or Strategic Planning in the Arts (offered in alternate years) and Marketing Sponsorship and Funding for the Arts.

The focus for the programmes is on interactive seminars, guest lectures on contemporary issues in the cultural sector and excursions to the vibrant arts and culture organisations in the broader Johannesburg area. The course also enables active engagement with the cultural economy in Johannesburg through conferences, meetings, launches and collaborative research between students and leading arts organisations, honing critical skills in research and at the same time networking in and being of service to this community.

The Cultural Policy and Management teaching team is made up of professionals, researchers, experts and practitioners who are actively involved in the world of policy, management, administration, marketing and leadership in the cultural economy.
