Programme description and structureThis degree is presented at NQF level 9.This internationally accredited Master in Business Management and Administration is presented on a full-time, modular and blended learning basis at the Bellville Park Campus.
Programme OptionsStudents can choose between the Full-time MBA over one year or the Modular and Blended Learning MBA over two years.Overview of the various MBA programme optionsProgramme and duration Start Number of cohorts Delivery mode-Full-Time MBA: one year, full-time on campus from January to end of November-Modular MBA : two years, nine one-week blocks (classes Monday to Saturday) on campus over two years-Blended learning MBA: two years, one two-week block in year 1 and two one-week blocks in year 2 (classes Monday to Saturday) on campus over two years PLUS classes every Wednesday evening (online or on campus)
- All classes are supplemented by web-based support. The course content is embodied in a series of lectures and group discussions, blended with course material composed of comprehensive course outlines, text books and journal articles. Students have to be thoroughly prepared for all lectures so as to extract the optimal benefit from contact sessions and collaborative learning.
- Learning activities include lectures, guest lectures by practitioners, tutorials, syndicate groups, practical workplace experience and independent self-study.
- Students are assessed on a flexible assessment basis. The final performance mark is based on, among others, online assessments, class tests, group work, individual and group assignments, class participation as well as presentations.
Focus areasUSB has two new MBA focus areas over and above the current general MBA. The new focus areas (presented from the second year in the MBA blended learning programme) are:

Programme content213 credits (32 credits on NQF level 8 and 181credits on NQF level 9).This section covers the compulsory modules and the electives. Elective modulesStudents need to select two elective modules of 8 credits each. See web for electives.The elective modules have been grouped together in specialisation streams. By choosing elective modules from the same speciality, students can acquire areas of expertise in Strategy, Leadership, Finance, Marketing, Developing Markets, Project Management or other management areas.The elective modules change yearly.Research assignmentNo extension to the submission date of 15 November for the research assignment will be granted. If a student fails to submit by 15 November and submits the research assignment by the supplementary date of 15 January, a maximum mark of 50% will be awarded.
