The Bachelor of Laws Extended Programme in Law and Legal Studies is offered by Nelson Mandela University.
Program Length: 5 YEARS.
This qualification has been approved in terms of the new Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework (HEQSF).The Bachelor of Laws Extended prepares students for the assistance of employers, professional associations, curriculum developers, learning programme providers, and families in law enforcement contexts. This qualification aims at:
- creating law graduates who acquire coherent knowledge and understanding of relevant concepts and principles, together with a great amount of skills including problem-solving, and practical application of principles, written and oral skills, numeracy and computer literacy, among others.
- providing law graduates with enough skills and knowledge to apply in their daily lives.
- providing the South African community with lawyers who are good and responsible enough to accept their responsibility towards the realisation of a just society.
Admission Requirements
Those who are willing to pursue a Bachelor of Laws Extended must meet certain requirements that are applicable up to the final year of admission.
- Students must get a minimum NSC statutory requirement for degree entry.
- Applicants with NSC Grade 12 Mathematics or Technical Mathematics requires a minimum Applicant Score of 370. Those with NSC Grade 12 Mathematical Literacy require a 385 score.
- NSC achievement rating of at least 60% for English Home or 65% for English First Additional Language.
- NSC achievement rating of at least 45% for Mathematics or Technical Mathematics or 70% for Mathematical Literacy.
- The modules prescribed by the Senate must be obtained to earn this degree.
Career Opportunities
This qualification is aimed at preparing students for entry into legal practice and many other careers related to law, but also for post-graduate degrees. Students will learn to appreciate the values and principles established by the Constitution, as well as obtain a critical understanding of theories, concepts, principles, ethics, perspectives, methodologies, and procedures of the discipline of law. They will be apt to properly apply all of the above to academic and professional contexts.
