This programme has been approved in terms of the new Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework (HEQSF).This programme’s main objectives are to create competent, professional teachers that are prepared to work in diverse schools in South Africa and beyond. They aim to provide the students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills that will enable them to enhance teaching and learning in all Intermediate Phase subjects.The successful completion of the Bachelor of Education programme articulates with related qualifications as follows:
- Horizontally: On the completion of the B Ed (IP) graduates will be eligible to enroll for the ADE (Level 7) or ACT (Level 6), should they wish to further strengthen and enhance their existing specialization or want to develop a new role of practice to support teaching and learning in a school or in education more broadly.
- Vertically: On successful completion of the BEd (IP), graduates will be eligible to apply for admission to the B Ed Hons or Postgraduate Diploma (in Education).
Admission Requirements
- Minimum NSC statutory requirements for degree entry
- Minimum Applicant Score of 370 for applicants with NSC Grade 12 Mathematics.
- Minimum Applicant Score of 385 for applicants with NSC Grade 12 Mathematical Literacy or Technical Mathematics.
- NSC achievement rating of at least 45% for Mathematics or 60% for Mathematical Literacy or Technical Mathematics.
- NSC achievement rating of at least 50% for English (Home Language or First Additional Language) AND 50% for Afrikaans or isiXhosa (Home Language or First Additional Language).

- Critically engage with theoretical knowledge related to educational philosophy, sociology, history, psychology, politics, and economics from an educational perspective.
- Be able to organise, select, design, and implement effective learning and teaching to respond to different needs.
- Coherently integrate educational theory, pedagogical content knowledge and subject discipline knowledge in praxis.
- Be able to teach English and Afrikaans or isiXhosa as Language of Learning and Teaching.
- Demonstrate the ability to mediate learning through developing numeracy, literacy and information technology skills.
