Once we finish secondary education, the academic options are wide and open. Not only do we have the possibility to get a course certificate, but we also can earn different types of bachelor's and master's degrees. As we know, bachelor’s degrees are the most popular qualifications that can be pursued, but there are different types: bachelor of science, bachelor of arts, bachelor of technology, and more. Each of them has a varied amount of characteristics and features that differentiate them from others, and make them match several specialties.

B.Tech Degrees

In South Africa, the National Qualification Framework (NQF) provides a vision of the qualifications system of the country. It consists of ten levels divided into three categories. Levels 1 to 4 equal high school grades 9 to 12. Levels 5 to 7 are related to college diplomas and technical qualifications. Levels 7 to 10 equate to university degrees.

B.Tech degrees or Bachelor of Technology degrees are one of the most popular qualifications chosen after completion of grade 12, usually by science students. It is a 4-year full-time undergraduate course that offers a wide range of disciplines such as Computer Science, Civil, Mechanical, Electronic Engineering, or Information Technology. This degree focuses more on technological and practical knowledge, rather than theoretical knowledge.

Once you graduate with a Bachelor of Technology, you have the possibility to get further education. A Master in Technology or a Master in Business are two of the most common higher education degrees that can be obtained after graduation. Thus, students will increase their employability by getting further education.

This type of degree offers graduates a great variety of career options in different technical fields, whether it is in the private or public sector.

Bachelor of Technology vs. Bachelor of Science

As a B.Tech degree, a Bachelor of Science is also a popular choice among students. They are pretty similar, but there are some differences between them. First of all, a B.Sc. focuses more on science fields such as biotechnology, microbiology, nutrition, hospitality and hotel administration, or graphics and web design. On the other hand, B.Tech focuses on fields such as data analysis, electronics and communication engineering, artificial intelligence, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, etc.

Another difference between them is the career opportunities offered. A Bachelor of Technology is more career-centred, which means that most students will be able to find a job after graduating. The most important companies that are sought by graduates are Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, IBM, and more. A Bachelor of Science, on the other hand, allows graduates to work in laboratories, clinics, or research areas.

Whatever degree you decide to study will be excellent for your academic and professional life. Be sure you find the one that matches all of your interests.
