Overview

MA in the field of Translation

This qualification aims to broaden students' theoretical interests in translation and to encourage further research. Independent study forms a large part of the workload for these programmes although there is also a strong emphasis on continued professional translation training. Applicants should have already obtained an Honours degree in Translation or equivalent qualification. The programme consists of three modules plus a Research Report.

Master of Arts in Translation (Option: Interpreting)

The primary aim of this qualification is to produce graduates who are professionally competent in the field of conference interpreting and who are ready to enter the marketplace. At the same time students are exposed to interpreting theory and to research in the field of interpreting in order to produce graduates who are capable of conducting and writing up an extended research project. These aims are achieved through extensive practical work, wide reading, and supervision of research.

Independent reading and research form a large part of the workload for the programme, although there is also strong emphasis on professional interpreting training.
