Why study this programme?The extended degree programme was designed to support candidates from educationally disadvantaged school environments – to ease the transition from school to university and increase their prospects of success.
How does it work?The curriculum of the main stream BCom (Management Sciences) programme takes three years to complete. The programme is extended by offering the first-year core modules over two years.In the first year of study, you cover some of the curriculum's first-year modules plus additional preparatory modules. The aim of the preparatory modules is to strengthen your academic foundation. Students are required to pass these preparatory modules before proceeding to the following year of study.The rest of the first-year modules are offered in the second year of study. After this year, you have completed the first year of the main stream BCom (Management Sciences) curriculum. You are now able to handle the workload of the following years with confidence and may proceed with the main stream second- and third-year curriculum.Students who complete this programme successfully, are awarded a full and equal BCom (Management Sciences) degree after four years of study.
How does one get admitted to this programme?One cannot apply directly for the extended degree programme. You apply for admission to the BCom (Management Sciences) programme to be considered for admission to the extended programme.
