This programme trains you for a career in the management of human resources in organisations. If after completing your BCom (Industrial Psychology) you obtain a BComHons (Industrial Psychology), followed by the six-month BPsych Equivalence programme, and then pass the professional board examination, you qualify for statutory registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a psychometrist (independent practice). You may qualify for statutory registration as Industrial Psychologist with the HPCSA by completing the MCom (Industrial Psychology) programme, an internship of twelve months and sitting successfully for the professional board examination for industrial psychologists.
The training of psychometristsSince 1 January 2006 a new training model has applied for qualifying as a psychometrist. For this you must first study Industrial Psychology for four years by taking and successfully completing the BCom (Industrial Psychology) and the BComHons (Industrial Psychology) degrees. Then you must complete a practicum internship (in the case of an accredited honours degree) or a six-month BPsych Equivalence programme consisting of practical work under the supervision of a registered psychologist at an organisation. This practical training must be carried out in psychometric assessment. After completion of the practical work you must write the professional board examination set by the Psychometrics Committee of the Professional Board for Psychology, which you must pass with an average of at least 70%.
