Why study Agronomy at Stellenbosch University?

The study of agronomy is important for several reasons. The most important reason to study agronomy is that we live in a world with a rising population, and feeding everyone means responsibly managing our food production systems and natural resources. Agronomy makes that possible. Agronomists evaluate the impact of climate change, air pollution, wildlife habitats, and other environmental factors on crop viability and nutrient levels. In other words, the study of agronomy can enable farmers to improve their efficiency.

Agronomy is also worth studying because it offers a unique perspective that other plant and crop-based sciences don’t.

Agronomy is the science and technology that considers large-scale crop cultivation from a holistic perspective. Agronomists understand the genetic, biological, environmental, and economic impacts of agricultural processes, and work with farmers to maximize their crop yields.
